Devisme 1855 2nd type 11mm revolver
Description
Devisme 1855 2nd type 11mm revolver in rosewood box. 6 shot, single action, internal hammer. Perfect piece, stamped with DV in circle and AF (August Francotte?), serial number 1064. Rare kind of box – every piece of the set has precisely tailored place for it. Most boxes had rougly separated compartments, like my Devisme with external hammer. Every chamber in cylinders has special rods inside (Thouvenin idea intended to flatten the balls against them – somewhat senseless idea in revolver I think). The cylinder had to be removed for loading. The balls or bullets were hammered inside with the device unscrewed from the butt.
Those revolvers were used by officers during French intervention in Mexico.
This is probably the most exclusive piece in my collection, probably never fired.
