Description

The breach loading single shot carbine was patented in 1858 by Ebenzer Starr. It was a technical rival of Shaprs design. Caliber .54. It was used by Union troops, especially in the west, but also had been documented in hands of Confederacy.

There were 20000 percussion  carbines manufactured by Starr Arms Company of Yonkers, New York. And later on about 3000-5000 that used metal cartride.

This one used paper cartridges with percussion cap loaded separately.
